La Bohème

September 30th – October 3rd 2009, 7.30 pm

One of the most popular operas of all time.
The passion and power of La Bohème will overwhelm you!

La Bohème is a heart-rending tale of doomed love with some of the most supremely beautiful music in opera. Two young people fall in love at first sight in a duet famous the world over – Rodolfo sings ‘Your tiny hand is frozen’ and she replies ‘They call me Mimi’. They could not be happier –until fate deals its hand.

Sheffield City Opera is thrilled to present a cast of young and extremely talented soloists, well-known to local audiences. Nick Sales (last year’s Don José in ‘Carmen’), Andrea Tweedale (last year’s Frasquita) as Mimi and John Savournin as Marcello head the cast, with Gavin Magenty, Elizabeth Menezes, Matthew Palmer and the Sheffield City Opera chorus. The Sheffield City Opera orchestra will be under the masterly baton of Terry Hobson and we welcome back Ed Bancroft as director.

The University of Sheffield Drama Studio will provide the perfect, intimate, setting for Puccini’s La Bohème. Book early for this exclusive experience.
