Fascinatin’ Gershwin (October 2003)
Set in the elegant 1930s and tracing the path of four couples who meet up one night in a ritzy Manhatten nightclub, Fascinatin’ Gershwin told the age old story of life, love and romance through the unforgettable songs of George and Ira Gershwin.
Fully staged and costumed in the period and including all the sparkle and excitement, as well as the drama and pathos of the time, the show featured some of the best loved lyrics and melodies ever written, including an extract from Gershwin’s opera Porgy and Bess.
The concert was held at The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield and featured SCO’s inspirational Musical Director, David Barnard leading a host of talented soloists and the full SCO Chorus accompanied by the Sheffield City Opera ‘Pocket Orchestra.’ David also accompanied on the grand piano as part of the orchestra ensemble and played a Gershwin piano solo.

From Stage to Screen featured some of the best loved stage and screen music. It included music from the likes of Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin, Franz Lehar and many more; and from shows and films ranging from The Lion King to Les Misérables, and Oliver to The Sound of Music and was a great success.
This concert was held at Rotherham Civic Theatre and featured the chorus and principals of Sheffield City Opera, with our Musical Director, David Barnard, and accompanist Elizabeth Hooper.
