SUNG IN ENGLISH
Sheffield University Drama Studio, Glossop Road, Sheffield 10
1st - 4th
October 2008 at 7.15pm
Sheffield City Opera's production brings 'Carmen' out of the vast arena and into an intimate setting where its tragic story will touch the heart in a new way. Experience the fated passion of Carmen (Debbie Michaels), the anguish of Don Jose (Nick Sales), the sweet loyalty of Michaela (Rebecca Lambert), and the arrogance of the toreador Escamillo (Richard Parry). Accompanying Carmen are her gypsy friends (Andrea Tweedale, Honor Morton, Ed Harris and Craig Lawton).
With the Sheffield City Opera chorus and fifteen-piece orchestra conducted by Musical Director, Terry Hobson.
“Sheffield City opera gave a musically pleasing and often stirring performance”
“Principles and chorus were totally committed to the lyrical and dramatic quality of the score and a credit to Terry Hobson”
“Nick Sales an outstanding Don Jose”
“The roles of Carmen, Michaela, Frasquita were sung and acted with intensity and verve”
“The audience wholeheartedly enjoyed the evening”
