Auditions for Cinderella – February 2015

Sheffield City Opera is planning to stage the opera Cinderella by Jules Massenet at the Library Theatre in Sheffield during week commencing 22nd June 2015. Current plans are to conduct three performances on 26th and 27th June 2015 at the Library Theatre in Sheffield. The opera will be sung in English.

In preparation, Sheffield City Opera is conducting auditions in Sheffield on Sunday, 1st February 2015 from 2:00 to 5:00pm for the various singing roles in Cinderella.

A second date of Sunday, 8th February (2pm to 5pm) has been arranged for any follow up auditions or for those who cannot make the first date.

Wanted: Artistic Director for Cinderella Opera

Sheffield City Opera is looking for an artistic director for our production of Jules Massenet’s Cinderella next May.

We are looking for a person that match as closely to the following criteria:-

  • Experience staging full operas in a theatre.
  • Prepared to work with an amateur company and have ideas on how to create an exciting production on a limited budget
  • Live locally in Sheffield and be prepared to organise and take rehearsals from Jan – May next year

Ideally we are looking for someone who wishes to gain more experience with opera production and can “bed-in” with the company for its duration. Due to limited funds we would not be able to pay for this undertaking, but could provide some expenses.

Carmen Auditions

Sheffield City Opera & Sheffield Symphony Orchestra are joining together to produce a fantastic concert of Carmen.

This concert will feature a full sized orchestra – a rare treat as this hardly ever happens outside of productions at the great opera houses.

We are looking for exceptional principals to join us in this one off exceptional concert on Saturday 29th March 2014.

About the Auditions

Sheffield City Opera is a charity based organisation and our primary focus is giving singers experience with high end opera in a supportive environment.  Please check our terms before applying for the auditions.

  • This will be a one off concert on the 29th March 2014 in Sheffield
  • The opera will be sung in English.
  • You will need to be available for the rehearsal times which will be run every Wednesday from Jan – Mar 2014.
  • The opera society is based in Sheffield and all rehearsals will be in Sheffield.
  • Sheffield City Opera is a charity and does not offer payment for the role but may cover some small expenses.
  • We reserve the right to rescind a part if attendance at rehearsals is poor.

Desperately Seeking Lucia!

Sheffield City Opera is looking for someone to fill the role of Lucia in this Autumn’s Concert of Cavalleria Rusticana.

The role is for a contralto (or mezzo-soprano) and usually played by an older lady.

Join Company Now For The New Season

New Programme of concerts is starting in September

Rehearsal start on 4th Sept for 12 weeks.

An audition is not required and all are welcome – especially men!

Come and join in the fun of singing in a chorus.

Times and Location

We sing every Wednesday from 7:30pm – 10pm at Wesley Hall in Crookes Sheffield (S10 1UD – see map)

Please note, there will be a joining fee of £50 for new members and £15 for students. If you decide to join the society this amount will be reduced from your yearly fee.

The concert will consist of two performances, Cavalleria rusticana and HMS Pinafore.
